Construction Safety & Health Specialist I

We are currently looking for a Construction Safety & Health Specialist I to join our team. Qualified candidates will exhibit strong ethics and morals. This full‑time position reports to the Safety & Health Director and consists of approximately 75 % field work and 25 % office work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct and document jobsite inspections and audits with special emphasis on hazard recognition, at‑risk behaviors, and correction of potential third‑party safety violations.
  • Work with managers and supervisors to manage hazardous conditions and eliminate unsafe employee activities. Investigate and recommend improvements in processes, design, procedures, and operations to minimize potential hazards.
  • Review, analyze, and present data collected during jobsite inspections for presentation to Senior Managers and/or Company Ownership.
  • Ensure employee understanding of compliance with all company policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all sub‑contractors and employees comply with jobsite safety rules and regulations.
  • Conduct Job Hazard Analyses (JHA) with employees and sub‑contractors.
  • Conduct incident and accident investigations.
  • Prepare and maintain records of incidents, injuries, and near misses.
  • Conduct chemical inventories at multiple sites. Assist in maintaining digital Safety Data Sheets.
  • Facilitate Safety Committee meetings.
  • Provide safety presentations, toolbox talks, or participate in safety stand‑downs.
  • Provide training for a wide variety of topics including OSHA 10‑hour classes, new employee safety training, and refresher training.
  • Work well with others and enhance the commitment to and enthusiasm for a safe work environment throughout the company.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Lead by example and work safely at all times.

  • Maintain cooperative working relationships at all levels.
  • Organize office work; prioritize, produce, and maintain data and files in an orderly fashion.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Pass a background and drug screening.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license.
Education and/or Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety & Health preferred.
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) required.
  • 1–3 years of experience in field safety.
  • Knowledge of OSHA 1926 regulations and OSH law.
  • Ability to earn certifications (OSHA 510, OSHA 500, CSP).
Physical Requirements
  • Able to walk on uneven surfaces and steep terrain.
  • Occasionally ascend/descend step ladders and/or stairs.
  • Regularly sit and stand for extended periods.
  • Regularly kneel, bend, and squat.
  • Able to visually distinguish colors and hear auditory signals.
  • Able to work in conditions with loud noise; work on/around heavy/moving machinery.
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions in mountainous terrain.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds from floor to waist.
