Great Plains Veterans Services Center (GPVSC) is seeking a Transportation Support Specialist in Fort Belknap, Montana, to help coordinate reliable transportation services for Veterans traveling to VA and VA-authorized health care appointments.

GREAT PLAINS VETERANS SERVICES CENTER (GPVSC)

The Great Plains Veterans Services Center (GPVSC) was established on June 24, 2015, and recognized as a 501(c)(3) organization in February of 2016. The GPVSC is headquartered on the Rocky Boy's Indian Reservation in North Central Montana. The GPVSC established the Veterans Support Services (VSS) program in January 2017. The purpose of this program is to provide Veterans with access to all VA benefits they have earned;

assist unemployed Veterans in becoming self-sufficient by transitioning them into the workforce; support homeless Veterans or at-risk for homelessness in attaining and maintaining housing; provide mental health and suicide prevention support; and provide case management to assist Veterans in overall quality of life needs. The VSS program’s service area includes three Indian Reservations and five rural Montana counties. In 2020, the GPVSC began operating its Veterans Transportation Services (VTS) program.

This program provides transportation services to rural Montana Veterans for VA and VA-referred appointments. The VTS program’s service area includes six Indian Reservations and 45 rural Montana counties.

Job Overview

We are looking for a versatile, organized individual to support daily transportation operations through scheduling, dispatch coordination, administrative support, documentation, and reporting. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, comfortable working with Veterans and community partners, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced office environment. This position works under the direction of the Transportation Manager and supports GPVSC’s transportation services in accordance with organizational procedures, safety expectations, confidentiality requirements, and grant-compliance standards.

Administrative

Support
  • Veteran transportation support: Assist Veterans with scheduling VA and VA-authorized transportation and provide clear information about transportation access and service area updates.
  • Scheduling coordination: Coordinate and maintain daily transportation schedules to support timely, reliable service.
  • Dispatch support: Coordinate dispatch operations, driver schedules, and route assignments to support efficient service delivery.
  • Records and documentation: Maintain accurate logs, records, files, and required transportation documentation.
  • Reporting and data tracking: Prepare accurate transportation-related reports, including grant-required or HRTG-related reporting as assigned.
  • Confidentiality and compliance: Maintain confidentiality and follow GPVSC procedures, safety policies, and compliance requirements.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support GPVSC’s mission, transportation services, and program goals.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and general computer literacy.
  • Familiarity with modern office procedures, practices, and equipment.
  • Ability to handle difficult interactions while maintaining a calm, respectful demeanor.
  • Strong listening skills and the ability to communicate with empathy and without judgment.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Understanding of confidentiality standards and the ability to maintain them.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate with people from diverse backgrounds.
