Position Overview
Montana State University-Northern's College of Arts, Sciences, and Education invites applications for an academic-year (10-month), full-time, tenure-track faculty position in Communication (Interpersonal Communication emphasis) at all ranks (Assistant/Associate/Full Professor), anticipated to begin August 1, 2026. This is an on-site position.

General Statement
A significant portion of the successful candidate's teaching will include courses such as Introduction to Public Speaking, Introduction to Interpersonal Communication, and Introduction to Intercultural Communication, along with a rotation of upper division courses. The duties and responsibilities of this position also include participating in scholarship and service activities; collaborating across MSU-Northern (MSUN) programs and Montana University System institutions; and supporting student recruitment, retention, and progression efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will teach courses including Introduction to Public Speaking, Introduction to Interpersonal Communication, and Introduction to Intercultural Communication, along with a rotation of upper division courses. The duties and responsibilities of this position also include participating in scholarship and service activities; collaborating across MSUN programs and Montana University System institutions; and supporting student recruitment, retention, and progression efforts.
Required Qualifications - Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
* Doctorate required in Communication or Media Studies by August 1, 2026
* Successful teaching experience at the college level
* Experience teaching via in-person, online, and/or hybrid modes of delivery
* Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations
Preferred Qualifications - Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
* Interest in teaching mass media courses
* Experience with curriculum development
* Interest in developing core initiatives in Communication

The Program The Department The College
The College of Arts, Sciences, and Education offers undergraduate and graduate degrees through programs that prepare students for work in fields spanning the humanities, social and physical sciences, professional education, public service, and leadership. Degree programs are represented by the BA in three majors, the BS in eight majors, a BAS, and an AA in General Education. The College also home to the University's three graduate programs including a MEd in Counselor Education, a MSEd in Instruction and Learning, and a MS in Teaching in a Content Area (non-licensure).
