The Salish Kootenai College Native American Studies department is seeking one full time faculty member for a 9month position teaching courses in the Native American Studies with emphasis on Tribal Governance and Administration program. Candidates must have successfully earned a minimum of a Master's Degree or equivalency in a related field. Preference will be given to candidates who have focused their studies on issues related to American Indian peoples, the Confederated Salish, Pend d'Oreille, and Kootenai Tribes, and tribes of Montana.

Candidates will be required to meet all of the general duties of full-time instructors at Salish Kootenai College, as well as other assignments as needed.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

* Plan, prepare and develop course materials such as course curriculum, assignments, textbook selection, syllabi and materials that are place- and community-based, as well as culturally sustaining and revitalizing for both in class and on-line course delivery.

* Review and revise curricula, course content, course materials, and methods of instruction in accordance with SKC mission and goals and the 4

Cs.

* Prepare and deliver instruction to students using multiple instructional methods to include lecture, class projects, group work, guest speakers, place-based instruction, class presentations, and other appropriate strategies.

* Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions.

* Evaluate the quality of student course work, essay/research paper assignments, and the class assignments, participation, etc.

* Collaborate with colleagues to design, enhance and improve teaching and research practices.

* Collaborate with department members to plan, implement, and participate in annual and long-term evaluation of program.

* Establish and maintain scheduled office hours. The instructor must be available to assist students in person, via email, online, and via phone with their academic and advising needs.

Advising

* Advise and mentor students in academic and vocational programs, career decisions, department and college policies, and maintain advising files for each advisee.

* Evaluate student transcripts to assure the student's academic record accurately reflects transfer credit earned, appropriate courses are taken for degree plans and graduation as needed. Submit appropriate paperwork, as necessary.

* Assist students to complete the graduation application, ensuring that all requirements are met and the application is filed within established timelines.

* Refer students to appropriate college and community resources.

* Work in conjunction with Enrollment Services and the Dean of the Native

* American Studies Division to ensure that the electronic advising module contains current, accurate course descriptions and degree requirements.

College/Committee Service

* Serve on academic and administrative committees to provide faculty input into institutional policies, departmental review, student retention and academic programs, and/or other appropriate areas.

* Attend Staff/Faculty, and departmental meetings.

* Participate in SKC campus and community events.

* Participate in college activities for students.

* Participate in college and reservation-wide cultural activities.

* Participate in professional development opportunities to increase knowledge in Selis, Ksanka, and Qlispe cultures and other areas relating to education and retention issues.

Qualifications:

* Master's Degree is required, with an educational background in a related field such as:

* Native American Studies

* Integrative Indigenous Education

* History

* Political Science

* American Indian Law & Policy

* Natural Resource Law & Policy

* Public Administration

* Education

* History

* Tribal Governance

* Environmental Studies

* Demonstrated studies on issues related to American Indian peoples, or Indigenous population, Confederated Salish, Pend d'Oreille, and Kootenai Tribes, and Montana tribes preferred.

* Experience working with Native American populations is preferred.

* Demonstrated experience and skill in teaching at undergraduate level is preferred

* Experience using Microsoft Suites (Word, Excel, PPT, Access), the Google Suite, and various technologies to support instruction in the classroom, preferred experience working within Learning Management Systems (LMS).

* Ability to multi-task and independently organize and prioritize project activities.

* Must possess an understanding of culturally-sustaining and/or revitalizing educational strategies, communication, and critical-thinking skills.

* Work with students, faculty, and support service staff in diverse settings.

* Ability to work flexible hours.

* Excellent oral and written communication.
