Position Overview

Browning Public Schools is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Dean of Students to support our students in overcoming non‑academic challenges that may inhibit their learning. This role is vital in helping students maximize their educational experiences and achieve their personal and academic goals within the framework of district and school policies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Student Relationships: Build and maintain supportive connections with students, focusing on sensitive sexual and gender‑specific issues, while fostering a friendly yet professional atmosphere.
  • Counseling: Provide individual counseling and make appropriate referrals for testing or psychological support. Collaborate with parents to ensure a positive learning environment.
  • Attendance: Oversee student attendance records, notifying parents of excessive absences and working toward solutions.
  • Home‑School Connection: Conduct conferences and home visits to strengthen relationships with families and collaborate with administration and staff.
  • Discipline: Address disciplinary issues fairly and in compliance with district policies, maintaining accurate records of actions taken.
  • Safety: Assist in ensuring the safety and welfare of students, making recommendations for campus policies.
  • School Support: Guide students in school participation, course selection, and information dissemination regarding tutoring and graduation.
  • Administration: Supervise extracurricular programs and activities, manage student registrations, and maintain school calendars and handbooks.
  • Policies: Help interpret school policies to stakeholders and recommend revisions as necessary.
  • Cooperation: Collaborate with instructional leaders and local agencies to support students and families effectively.
  • Meetings: Participate in meetings with students, parents, school leaders, and community organizations as required.
  • Training: Attend professional development opportunities to stay current in best practices.
  • Reports: Prepare necessary reports and documentation as required.
  • Public Relations: Promote the school's initiatives and show a genuine commitment to student development.
  • Confidentiality: Uphold confidentiality regarding sensitive student information.
  • Other Duties: Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in education, administration, counseling, or a related field.
  • Montana State Educator License.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of successful teaching experience as a licensed educator.
  • Proficient with desktop computers, preferably in a Microsoft environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to engage positively with students, staff, and the community.
  • Ability to supervise support staff and demonstrate excellent communication, problem‑solving, and organizational skills.
  • Capability to work independently and collaboratively with good work habits.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience working with secondary‑aged students.
  • Familiarity with Infinite Campus or similar student databases.
  • Administrative Class 3 certification.
Salary

Salary is according to current Master Contract, is based on qualifications, and is DOE.

Benefits include Health Insurance (currently paid by the District), Montana Teachers' Retirement, and Discretionary Leave.
