Qualifications:

Two years post high-school education or passage of competency test;
First Aid Certification;
Training/Certification in aquatics;
Red Cross Certification in advanced life-saving, water safety, swim team experience preferred;
Must be reliable;
Must work cooperatively with adults and high-school age students.

Duties:
The ability to provide instruction under the direct supervision of the teacher and to instruct students in small groups;
Assist certified teacher with instruction of high school students in swimming, advanced life saving and water safety;
Supervise students in halls, locker rooms, and pool areas;
Assist instructor with recordkeeping and paperwork as needed, being able to keep accurate records on instructional information;
The ability to work as part of a team and work with and take direction from the classroom teacher;
The ability to assist with specialized personal needs of students;
The ability to work independently;
Other duties as necessary.

Salary: $14.17 per hour 5.75 hrs/day; 5 days/wk

Summary

The instructional aide shall work under the supervision of the teacher and assist in the students' daily program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assist in the student's educational plan including development and implementation of the instructional program. Understand and be aware of medical needs of the students. Assist with behavior management of students, including but not limited to keeping the language appropriate for school, and managing any disagreements. Manage required forms and records including "fine lists" for lost locks, turning in all fines to the finance office.

Assign lockers to students; make sure the lockers are cleaned out at the end of the term. Look up combinations for students and assist them with any locker problems. Assist with any accidents and accident prevention. Report any problems in the locker rooms including facility problems and lock or locker problems.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervises students when the teacher is not present.

Education and/or

Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED), two years post high school education or passage of district test.

Language

Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small group, or large group situations to students, customers and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical

Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimal. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent, and interpret test and machines that concern the Ph level of the pool.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variable in standardized situations.

Other

Skills and Abilities:

The ability to work with high school students who are at various levels in the ability to swim, from severely handicapped students to state champion swimmers. The ability to interact with the public and other staff is essential. The ability to work in an ever changing environment, that can be a safety concern. The ability to meet multiple demands from several people.

The ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. The ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing. The ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and the Board of Education policies.
