Paraprofessional, Special Education – District Wide

Position Overview:

The person in this position will assist the classroom teacher with the students, individually or in small groups to reinforce and follow up learning activities. They also assist in maintaining neat, orderly, and attractive learning environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist instructional personnel with development and presentation of learning materials and instructional exercises
  • Assist students individually or in small groups to reinforce and follow up learning activity
  • Assist in presentation of learning materials, instructional exercises, and testing in compliance with the student's IEP.
  • Monitor and assist students through drill, practice, and study activities following presentation of instructional concepts by instructional personnel
  • Assist in supervision of students in the classroom, on study trip activities, on the playground, and in bus duty as directed
  • Listen to students read, read to students, explain words and meanings, rephrase materials, and provide similar learning examples
  • Assist students, if needed, with their personal hygiene
  • Perform general clerical duties for instructional personnel
  • Assist in management and shaping of student behavior through use of positive reinforcement strategies
  • Distribute and account for materials such as textbooks, supplies, and equipment; collect, assemble, catalog and distribute resource materials
  • Assist in maintaining student discipline
  • Assist in maintaining neat, orderly, and effective learning environment, including designing and displaying bulletin boards
  • Assist in maintaining a variety of reports and records
  • Assist in scoring tests; compute and record test scores and grades
  • May assist in parent conferences if requested by instructional personnel

Minimum Qualifications:

Education / Certification:

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent
  • Para educator Certification or 48 College Credits or Higher degree
  • * Highly Qualified Para educator Requirement
  • Paraeducators who are hired after July 1, 2024, will be enrolled in one of the following trainings to be paid in full by Hardin School District 17H & 1. Only one (1) training will be paid by the school district:
    • PASS Training through MFPE
    • Workkeys
    • or a District Assessment
  • Employees will have 90 days to complete & pass said training to reach Highly Qualified status. Said employees will be paid at a probationary wage of fifty cents per hour ($.50/hr) less than the base wage of Level 1 (SY26-27 $ 16.25). Upon the satisfactory completion, if within 90 days of beginning duties, the employee will receive a one-time fifty cents per hour ($.50/hr) increase.

  • Ability to implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, building staff and school community
  • Ability to learn and utilize standard teaching aides and office equipment
  • Ability to effectively use technology in the instructional/learning process
