BHE Montana, a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Energy, is seeking a Plant Operator to support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of our renewable energy assets in northern Montana.

BHE Montana develops, owns, and operates energy infrastructure projects throughout Montana and the Pacific Northwest. Our growing portfolio includes wind energy facilities, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and planned solar generation projects
. This position offers a unique opportunity to play a key role in Montana's clean energy future while working in a dynamic field environment.

The Plant Operator is responsible for the day-to-day operation, maintenance planning, contractor coordination, and light maintenance of our renewable generation facilities located near Ethridge and Kevin, Montana
.

What You'll Do Safe & Efficient Operations
  • Develop, review, and maintain operating and safety procedures.
  • Administer safe work practices and equipment isolation processes.
  • Conduct site safety orientations for contractors and visitors.
  • Support compliance with operational and environmental permits.
  • Coordinate electrical switching and isolation activities with the Network Operations Center.
  • Assist with training and qualification of relief personnel.
Maintenance Planning & Coordination
  • Plan and oversee routine maintenance activities including:
  • Road maintenance
  • Vegetation and weed control
  • Regulatory inspections
  • Annual safety certifications
  • Coordinate major maintenance activities performed by contractors, including:
  • Wind turbine technicians
  • High-voltage system specialists
  • Battery energy storage technicians
  • Verify contractor qualifications and adherence to safety requirements.
  • Maintain detailed maintenance records and asset documentation.
  • Monitor and trend generation and energy storage system performance.
Dispatch & Operational Support
  • Maximize asset availability and operational performance.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and respond to system alarms.
  • Coordinate maintenance schedules and outage planning with plant dispatch personnel.
  • Support efficient return-to-service activities following equipment failures.
  • Schedule turbine and equipment maintenance with service providers.
Light Maintenance
  • Maintain facilities in a safe, clean, and organized condition.
  • Perform basic maintenance tasks such as:
  • Fluid top-offs
  • Replacing indicators and lighting
  • Minor leak repairs
  • Assist with SCADA system monitoring and adjustments.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in renewable energy, utility operations, industrial facilities, or construction related to wind energy infrastructure.
  • Experience with substation operations and electrical switching
    .
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Working knowledge of safety systems and contractor oversight.
  • Proficiency with computers, email, and spreadsheet applications.
  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions.
  • Commitment to environmental, health, and safety excellence.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Wind Turbine Technician Certification.
  • Solar inverter training or certification.
  • Experience with SCADA systems and energy storage technologies.
  • Prior experience coordinating contractors and maintenance programs.
Physical & Working Conditions

This position requires work in industrial and outdoor environments.

Candidates must be able to:

  • Participate in an on-call rotation outside normal business hours.
  • Work at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Lift and carry materials weighing more than 25 kg (55 lbs).
  • Meet applicable physical fitness and medical requirements.
  • Work safely in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Travel between renewable energy facilities as required.
