Position Title
Client Service Technician – Office of Public Assistance, Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services
OverviewThe Office of Public Assistance administers Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly Food Stamps), Healthy Montana Kids (HMK), and Medicaid. The Client Service Technician serves as the initial contact for the public and providers seeking services from OPA, providing information, assistance, and referrals.
Responsibilities- Serve as the initial contact for the public and providers seeking services from OPA.
- Provide information and assistance to individuals applying for services or expedited SNAP applications.
- Make referrals as needed to food banks, human resource councils, and public housing.
- Knowledge of general office work and principles and practices of customer service.
- General knowledge of public assistance programs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Interpersonal, positive minded, time management, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced, high‑volume work environment and handle stressful situations.
- Ability to work with the public and maintain professional working relationships with peers, supervisors, providers, and other agency staff.
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Two years of job‑related work experience in an office, receptionist, clinic, or related area.
- Other combinations of directly related education and work experience may be considered on a case‑by‑case basis.
- Preferred experience:
Extensive customer service and computer experience that includes data entry and Windows‑based navigation; experience working with tribal government entities and/or other organizations of native peoples.

Salary and Telework$22.55 per hour. Telework eligible (full‑time telework not available; telework schedule must be supervisor‑approved).
