The Disciplinary Hearings Officer presides over, conducts, or adjudicates hearings to determine legal rights, duties, and privileges of parties or review and decide claims and complaints. The position will confer with individuals or organizations involved, monitor and direct activities and conduct consistent with due process standard, legal procedures and orderly hearings. This position will also issue written opinions and decisions subject to judicial review, as well as research and analyze laws, regulations, policies, and precedent decisions to prepare for hearings and determine conclusions.

In addition, the disciplinary hearings officer will assess witness credibility and explain reasonable inferences regarding decisions, as well as direct the submission of information and attendance of witnesses and the parties' participation in the hearing.

Qualifications

The knowledge, skills and abilities for this position are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to:

  • Ability to conduct legal research and administrative hearings
  • Ability to write legal documents
  • The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree, as well as 3 or more years of job-related experience in legal writing, conducting legal research, and administrative hearings.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
