SEN Teaching Assistant

Are you a graduate with a passion for supporting children with special educational needs and an ambition to become a Speech and Language Therapist?

We are currently seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to work on a 1:1 basis with a non-verbal child in a welcoming and supportive school located in Hackney. This role is an excellent stepping stone for someone looking to gain hands-on, relevant experience before pursuing further training in Speech and Language Therapy.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

• Provide individualised support to a non-verbal child within the classroom
• Implement communication strategies and support plans
• Encourage engagement, learning, and social interaction
• Work closely with teachers and specialist staff to support the child’s development

This position is particularly well suited to an aspiring Speech and Language Therapist as:

• A qualified Speech and Language Therapist works with the child twice a week
• You will have the opportunity to observe, learn, and shadow the therapist during sessions
• Gain invaluable insight into therapeutic techniques, communication strategies, and professional practice

• A graduate (Psychology, Linguistics, Education, or related field preferred)
• Aspiring Speech and Language Therapist or similar allied health professional
• Patient, empathetic, and proactive
• Passionate about working with children with SEN
• Keen to learn from experienced professionals in a school-based setting

• Outstanding hands-on experience relevant to Speech and Language Therapy career pathways
• Ongoing professional development and mentoring
