Job Summary:

The Blackfeet Service Unit is seeking an experienced Laboratory Technician IV to provide comprehensive laboratory services at Blackfeet Community Hospital in Browning, Montana. The technician will perform a variety of laboratory testing and specimen-processing procedures, maintain quality and accuracy of test results, and support physicians and other healthcare professionals in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform routine and complex laboratory testing in accordance with established procedures and laboratory standards.
  • Collect, receive, identify, process, and prepare patient specimens for testing.
  • Perform testing in areas such as hematology, chemistry, microbiology, urinalysis, coagulation, and blood bank, as assigned.
  • Perform phlebotomy as needed, including collection of blood specimens, blood cultures, and compatibility specimens.
  • Operate, calibrate, troubleshoot, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Review and verify laboratory results for accuracy and completeness before reporting.
  • Recognize abnormal, critical, or questionable results and follow appropriate procedures for notification and resolution.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records, test logs, quality-control documentation, and patient results.
  • Perform and document quality-control procedures in accordance with laboratory policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure proper specimen handling, labeling, storage, and disposal.
  • Follow infection-control, safety, and laboratory protocols at all times.
  • Assist with inventory management and ensure adequate supplies and reagents are available.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information in accordance with applicable regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with providers, nurses, laboratory staff, and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Perform other laboratory duties as assigned by the laboratory supervisor.
Requirements:
  • Appropriate Laboratory Technician/Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) credentials and/or certification as required by the facility.
  • Current credentials and eligibility to work in a clinical laboratory setting.
  • Demonstrated experience performing laboratory testing across multiple laboratory disciplines.
  • Strong knowledge of specimen collection, processing, testing, quality control, and laboratory safety.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a hospital-based laboratory environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate patient results.
  • Must successfully complete facility credentialing and onboarding requirements.
  • Must be flexible with scheduling and available for 12-hour shifts, 3 days per week.
