Health Information Management (HIM) Specialist

Alluvion Health – Great Falls, Montana
Full-Time | Non-Exempt | 40 Hours per Week
Schedule: Monday–Friday | 8 hours per day
Department: Revenue Cycle
Reports To: Revenue Cycle Director

At Alluvion Health, our Health Information Management (HIM) Specialist helps keep patient records accurate, complete, organized, accessible, and secure. You’ll work primarily behind the scenes while supporting providers, staff, patients, and other departments with medical records, documentation, authorizations, and health information needs.

What You’ll Do

As an HIM Specialist, you will:

  • Maintain accurate and complete electronic and paper medical records
  • Scan, index, organize, retrieve, distribute, and securely store patient documentation
  • Process medical record and authorization requests in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policy
  • Respond to medical records questions and requests from patients, providers, staff, and outside organizations
  • Enter and update information accurately within the electronic health record (EHR) and other systems
  • Copy, fax, email, and electronically transmit medical documentation as needed
  • Assist with insurance prior authorizations for diagnostic imaging and procedures
  • Support internal and external medical record audits
  • Perform routine compliance checks related to privacy, confidentiality, and documentation standards
  • Help train and support staff with record retrieval, storage, and EHR processes
  • Collaborate with Revenue Cycle, Quality, IT, and clinical teams to improve data accuracy and workflows
  • Assist with troubleshooting and maintaining health information systems
  • Support students or interns participating in job-shadowing or practicum experiences
What We’re Looking For

  • Comfortable working independently while also being part of a team
  • Confident using computers, Microsoft Office, and electronic systems
  • Able to communicate clearly and professionally by phone, email, and in person

Knowledge of medical terminology, medical records, HIPAA requirements, healthcare documentation, and EHR systems is strongly preferred.

Education & Experience

Candidates should have one of the following:

  • Associate of Applied Science in Health Information Technology (HIT), Certificate of Applied Science in Health Information Management (HIM), or a related field preferred;
    OR
  • At least two years of training or work experience in health information management, medical records, or a medical office setting

Experience working in a healthcare environment or Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) is preferred.

Preferred

Certifications:

CHIM, RHIT, or RHIA

Additional Requirement: Valid Montana driver’s license.
