Civil Litigation Attorney

A respected and growing law firm in Billings, Montana is seeking a General Litigation Attorney to join its defense practice. This position offers the opportunity to handle a diverse range of civil litigation matters while working in a collaborative and supportive firm environment.

Responsibilities

• Handle a broad caseload of general civil litigation defense matters from inception through resolution
• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and discovery responses
• Propound and manage written discovery; draft meet-and-confer correspondence
• Take and defend depositions of parties, witnesses, and experts
• Conduct legal research and factual investigations
• Appear in court for hearings, motions, mediations, and trials
• Communicate with clients, insurers, opposing counsel, and experts
• Develop case strategy and provide timely case evaluations and reporting

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
• Active admission to the Montana State Bar (or ability to obtain admission promptly)
• 2+ years of civil litigation experience preferred
• Experience in defense work, insurance defense, or general civil litigation is a plus
• Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills
• Ability to manage multiple cases and meet deadlines independently
• Professional judgment and strong client-service orientation

Billable Expectations & Compensation Structure

• 1,900 billable hours annually for bonus eligibility
• Bonus compensation tied to meeting or exceeding billable hour expectations
• Base Salary between $120-175k based on experience
• 100% firm paid for benefits
