Responsibilities and Duties:

At Sibanye-Stillwater, the Maintenance Supervisor provides frontline leadership for the safe, efficient, and compliant execution of mine-site maintenance across mobile equipment, stationary systems, fixed plant, or concentrator operations, as assigned. This position converts approved weekly schedules and planned work into effective daily shift execution by validating readiness, directing crews, coordinating resources, controlling field risk, and returning accurate completion and variance information to the Planner.

The Maintenance Supervisor serves as the principal link between maintenance planning, site leadership, Operations, and frontline employees to support equipment availability, reliability, quality, cost control, and consistent execution of site priorities.

Supervisor primary duties are:
  • Reinforce safe behaviors and compliance with Group Minimum Standards and ensure work is performed safely, adhering to standard operating procedures and approved working methods and stopping unsafe work immediately, mandating corrective action, holding employees accountable, and escalating appropriately.
  • Visit employees in their workplace each shift to review workplace exams and equipment inspections, providing signature for verification of safe conditions.
  • Continuously monitor fit-for-duty status of crew members and intervene using appropriate tools and resources, removing individuals from unsafe situations when necessary.
  • Ensure crew members are trained for assigned tasks by working with the safety department to identify any task training deficiencies and enabling time for task training, campaign training, and procedure reviews for all crew members.
  • Communicate shift plan and expectations clearly, assigning shift tasks and allocating resources/equipment.
  • Provide real-time coaching and feedback, recommending hiring or performance actions as needed.
  • Maintain discipline and performance standards by initiating progressive discipline per policy when required.
  • Identify emerging maintenance needs and provide the Planner with accurate equipment condition, priority, access, safety, and scope information; participate in field walkdowns or scope validation when requested.
  • Review proposed weekly schedules with the Planner and communicate crew capacity, skill availability, equipment access, operational constraints, and other conditions affecting execution before commitments are finalized.
  • Confirm receipt and availability of planned materials, tools, special equipment, and job kits before assigning work.
  • Manage task sequencing and crew allocation within the shift and coordinate with the Planner before deferring scheduled work, adding break-in work, or making changes affecting the weekly schedule, except when immediate action is required to protect people, the environment, or equipment.
  • Participate in daily maintenance review meetings and provide updates on work status, parts or tool needs, constraints, equipment condition, and expected completion.
  • Provide accurate and timely explanations for completed, deferred, rescheduled, and break-in work so schedule-compliance reporting reflects actual field conditions.
  • Complete and submit work orders, shift passdowns, Daily Shift Plans, incident and near-miss reports, variance explanations, and other required documentation within established time frames.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Must be able to exercise good judgement (critical thinking) under pressure and remain calm in tense or stressful situations.
  • Excellent leadership, including the ability to train and coach hourly employees, resolve conflict, and encourage teamwork.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to facilitate accurate and detailed record keeping.
  • The ability to leverage multiple communication pathways that coordinate and/or facilitates work across multiple work-streams leading to a common goal/objective.
  • Understand, support, and maintain compliance programs.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, O.E.M manuals, or maps related to scope of work.
  • General knowledge of applicable collective bargaining agreements.
  • Solid understanding and application of MSHA regulations, site safety requirements, hazard controls, permits, and Lockout, Tagout, and Tryout practices.
