Job Summary
Grain Elevator Technician I is an entry-level position. Responsibilities include grain receiving, storage handling, drying, blending, and loading of grain; monitoring stored grain conditions; maintaining and cleaning grain facilities and equipment; and driving trucks and other motorized equipment. Each employee is responsible for their own safe work behavior and the safety of their coworkers. Employees are expected to maintain a positive, forthright attitude that promotes a collaborative, respectful, and diverse corporate culture.
Wage: $22.50/hr DOE. Full-time with benefits.
Qualifications- Perform job tasks safely and comply with UGC safety programs and procedures.
- Take responsibility for own safe work behavior.
- Maintain work areas and facilities properly.
- Provide courteous and responsive customer service.
- Perform or assist in routine maintenance and basic-level repairs.
- Assist in unloading or loading of grain commodities by truck, rail, or barge.
- Weigh or measure materials and products using scales or other measuring instruments.
- Assess grain quality and evaluation.
- Maintain equipment, machinery, and work stations using hand tools, shovels, brooms, chemicals, hoses, and lubricants.
- Observe machinery and conveyor operations and monitor lights, dials, and gauges to maintain specified operating levels and detect equipment malfunctions.
- Inform supervisors of equipment malfunctions that need to be addressed.
Required Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED or equivalent training preferred. Exceptions are made for minors 16 years and older in high school for seasonal/temporary positions.
- A valid driver's license may be required, depending on location. A valid driver's license is required to drive company vehicles.
- Maintenance experience with a mechanical aptitude preferred.
- Agricultural experience preferred but not required.
- Experience with Word and Excel preferred but not required.
- Proven interpersonal skills; support a team-oriented and inclusive approach with a high level of integrity and reliability.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with employees and customers.
- Ability to understand and follow all safety guidelines.
- Must be able to work extended hours as needed.
This is a physical job that includes both indoor and outdoor work in all types of weather and temperature environments. It involves work in and around grain dust and can be physically strenuous. The position may require working in tight and confined spaces, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, lifting, gripping, grasping, pushing, pulling various tools and equipment, riding a belt lift, and occasionally working at significant heights.
Ability to frequently lift, push, pull up to 50 pounds and sometimes more is required, as is the ability to ascend and descend ladders.
Personal protective equipment required: hardhats, gloves, safety glasses, safety shoes, respiratory protection, and ear protection.
Requires the ability to read and comprehend written and oral operational and safety instructions, related rules, policies, and memos, and to communicate clearly with coworkers and supervisors. Must have vision that permits close, distance, peripheral, and depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to detect odors and understand safety warning systems. While performing duties, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear, frequently required to stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
