Food Sovereignty & Community Engagement Coordinator
Service Term: January 12, 2026 – August 21, 2026 (Full-time; ~40 hrs/week)
This opportunity is made possible through Community Health Corps Montana (CHCM), an Ameri Corps program connecting service-minded individuals with organizations improving the health and resilience of Montana communities.
The CSKT Food Sovereignty Program works to protect, restore, and sustain traditional and locally produced foods, ensuring Tribal members have access to nutritious, culturally relevant meals. Guided by Salish, Pend d’Oreille, and Kootenai values, the program supports food security, cultural food knowledge, intergenerational learning, and local producers—upholding inherent rights to hunt, fish, gather, and grow food within Tribal homelands.
Position OverviewCSKT is seeking a CHCM Ameri Corps member to support community-based food sovereignty efforts through data support, garden coordination, education, volunteer engagement, and culturally grounded outreach. This role blends hands‑on service with relationship‑building and systems support, contributing to long‑term community health and wellbeing.
This opportunity is well suited for someone who is community-minded, organized, curious, and interested in food systems, public health, cultural preservation, or community engagement.
Key ServiceActivities:
Produce Rx Data & Program Support
- Assist with tracking and summarizing Produce Prescription (Produce Rx) program participation and outcomes
- Support basic reporting and visualization to help demonstrate program impact
- Help implement Healthy Eating Research (HER) nutrition guidelines at food banks and pantries
- Assist with training materials and technical support for participating sites
- Support seasonal work in community gardens (planting, maintenance, harvesting)
- Help coordinate volunteer garden days and community workshops
- Assist with seedling propagation and seasonal planning
- Collaborate with the Elders Program on culturally relevant signage and educational materials
- Support youth and elder participation in food-related activities
- Assist with storytelling, photography, and documentation of program activities
- Help recruit, orient, and support volunteers
- Assist with scheduling and coordination for gardens, food distribution, and preservation activities
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Cultural humility and interest in working in Tribal communities
- Comfortable with hands‑on, community‑based work (indoors and outdoors)
- Organized, reliable, and eager to learn
No prior experience in food systems or public health is required—training and support are provided.
Eligibility Requirements- U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or lawful permanent resident
- At least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent
- Reliable transportation and successful completion of FBI/NSOPW/state background checks
- Full-time service (~40 hrs/week), January 12 – August 21, 2026
- Minimum of 1,200 total service hours; attendance at all required trainings and meetings
- Living allowance: $1,200 biweekly (pre‑tax)
- Segal Ameri Corps Education Award: $5,176.50 upon successful completion
