Description:
The Cardiovascular Intensive Care Nurse will provide care to patients in a 10-bed unit. This role requires experience in caring for immediate post-operative open heart patients. The nurse will be part of a great team. Receives direction from providers, charge nurse, ICU director, and CNO. Gives direction to LPNs, CNAs, housekeeping staff, and dietary staff. Works cooperatively with providers, healthcare professionals, and allied health staff.
The nurse will provide physical, emotional, spiritual, and cultural support to patients. Anticipated patient populations include pediatrics, pre and post PCI care, pacemaker management, revascularization, carotid endarterectomy, thoracotomy, congestive heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, diabetic keto acidosis, renal failure, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, sepsis, and a broad scope of surgical services. Staff will expect patients to be in relative stability while recognizing that diagnoses may require skilled assessment and intervention for potential deteriorating conditions.
Required to operate advanced medical equipment, which includes central lines, chest tubes, nasogastric tubes, continuous bladder irrigation, arterial lines, multiple IVs, and care for patients requiring short-term ventilation support. The nurse will also care for general medical and surgical patients in the inpatient unit. Must have the ability to assess and implement established policies and procedures with minimal supervision. Acts as a clinical leader and assists with precepting staff.
Provides direct care for patients from admission to discharge in all aspects of care, including discharge planning. Preferred knowledge in advanced nursing principles and procedures, critical care, cardiovascular ICU, and open heart experience. Skills required include the use of basic office equipment, operating multiple IV pumps, and advanced medical equipment operations. Basic cardiac telemetry and EKG interpretation skills are also necessary.
Recent critical care experience is highly preferred.
