Job Goal

To assist in the organization, coordination, and operational procedures of the school health rooms, maintain student health records, provide limited direct health care to students and perform clerical duties as assigned.

Essential Requirements
  • 21 years of age or older
  • Ability to work in harmony with, and to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with students, parents, and teachers
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to work with accuracy and attention to detail and meet deadlines
  • Ability to post data rapidly and make accurate mathematical calculations
  • Ability to work calmly in stressful situations
  • Ability to recognize, listen and respond to sensitive situations with students, parents, and staff
  • Ability to respond in an empathetic manner in interactions with students, parents, and staff
  • Familiar with school district policies and procedures in relation to first aid care and ability to interpret these to students and parents
  • Ability to use standard office equipment (computer, telephone, intercom, calculator, copier, fax, etc.)
  • Ability to perform secretarial and administrative support functions requiring independent judgement, decision-making and problem solving
  • Ability to maintain an efficient filing system
  • School Board or Administration may deem other alternatives appropriate.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide basic emergency health care needs of students and immediate care in case of injury or sudden illness per district policies.
  • Prepare and maintain student health records (immunizations) and ensure compliance with state standards.
  • Provide emotional support to students; communicate with parents regarding ill or injured students; assess critical medical emergencies and initiate response.
  • Maintain daily logs of all students.
  • Dispense and administer medication and immunizations; take temperatures, pulse rates, weight, and height measurements.
  • Maintain high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
  • Order health room supplies and maintain inventory.
  • Accompany sick or injured child to home or hospital as assigned.
  • Maintain head lice records, assist with classroom head checks, provide parent training.
  • Participate in in-service programs.
  • Act as a friendly ambassador for School District No. 30.
  • Perform other tasks as appropriate to the Board or Administration.
  • Maintain satisfactory attendance.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, Bonding, and/or Testing Required
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and a valid Registered Nurse License.
  • Valid CPR/First Aid card.
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance.
  • Bloodborne Pathogen Training/Hepatitis B Shot Series Training.
  • Valid Montana Driver's License.
Physical Demands
  • Moderate degree of physical stamina.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend frequently; occasional lifting up to 50 lbs and assisting students weighing up to 100 lbs.
  • Ability to use computer, telephone, and other office equipment for extended periods.
  • Ability to make frequent trips from desk to counter, files, and other office locations.
  • Possible exposure to bodily fluids while assisting students with rest rooms or tending to illness or injury.

Terms of Employment

As annually approved School District No. 30.

Evaluation

This job will be evaluated annually per Board policy on evaluation of personnel.
