Pre-Op/PACU Registered Nurse
This position follows a 3x12s schedule from 9am to 9pm.
This is a 13-week contract position.
The Pre-Op/PACU RN provides skilled, compassionate care to patients before and after surgical, procedural (interventional radiology, bronchoscopy), and interventional cardiology cases. This role requires comprehensive assessment skills, close patient monitoring, and specialized management of patients undergoing surgery or cardiac/vascular catheter lab procedures. The nurse safely administers medications, infusions, and blood products, adhering to provider orders and safety protocols while acting as a key liaison between surgical teams and patients' families to ensure safety from admission to discharge.
Participation in an on-call rotation, weekend, and/or holiday schedule is required based on facility needs.
Responsibilities:
- Pre-Operative & Pre-Procedure Phase Assessment: Review patient medical history, allergies, lab results, and consents to ensure procedural readiness.
- Post-Anesthesia & Post-Cath Lab Recovery Phase: Monitor vital signs, airway patency, and manage access site complications.
- Medication Administration & Infusion Titration: Administer medications safely with proper verification and manage high-alert medications.
- Blood & Blood Product Administration: Conduct pre-transfusion verification and monitor for transfusion reactions.
- Clinical Care Excellence & General Nursing Standards: Maintain safety compliance and proficiently manage vascular access.
- Professional Communication & Documentation: Foster collaboration with patients and healthcare teams; maintain accurate electronic health records.
- Equipment, Technology, & Workspace Stewardship: Demonstrate proficiency in specialized patient care equipment and technology.
- Comprehensive Patient Education: Provide detailed pre- and post-operative education to patients and caregivers.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure:
Current RN license and relevant experience in pre-operative and post-anesthesia care are required. Previous experience in a PACU, surgical, or cath lab environment is preferred.
