REC’s full‑time Tree Trimmer performs safe and efficient maintenance of power line rights‑of‑way by clearing and removing vegetation near cooperative and member power lines, including the removal of trees, brush, shrubs, and branches within right‑of‑way throughout the areas serviced by the cooperative. This position is responsible for managing vegetation around all electrical utility systems to ensure public safety, regulatory compliance, and reliable power delivery by inspecting utility rights‑of‑way, identifying hazardous trees and vegetation, coordinating tree trimming and removal activities, and working closely with contractors, property owners, and internal utility departments.
EssentialFunctions
- Inspect distribution lines to identify vegetation hazards and ensure compliance with clearance standards.
- Evaluate tree health, structure, and risk using industry‑standard arboricultural practices.
- Prescribe appropriate vegetation management treatments, including pruning, removal, and herbicide application.
- Coordinate and oversee contractor crews performing line clearance and vegetation management work.
- Ensure compliance with ANSI A300 standards, OSHA regulations, and company safety policies.
- Document inspections, service orders, and vegetation conditions using GIS and work management systems.
- Respond to storm events and emergency outages as needed.
- Communicate with property owners regarding required tree work and resolve member concerns professionally.
- Participate in safety meetings, training, and certification programs.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, pull up to 80+ pounds.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years of arboriculture, forestry, or vegetation management experience.
- Knowledge of tree identification, pruning standards, and safe work practices near energized conductors.
- Valid Class A CDL with clean driving record.
- ISA Certified Arborist certification (or ability to obtain within 12 months) and knowledge of GIS mapping systems and work management software.
