Position Summary

The Assistant Activities Manager assists in planning, organizing, and executing the outdoor activity programs at Paws Up Montana. Working closely with the Wilderness Outpost leadership team, this role ensures guides and activity offerings consistently meet premier luxury standards while fostering a safe, engaging, and hospitable environment. Operating in a high-responsibility, fast-paced setting, the Assistant Activities Manager leads by example, managing guide schedules, overseeing equipment maintenance, and adapting dynamically to last-minute operational changes to deliver world-class guest experiences.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operational Leadership & Scheduling:
    Plan and anticipate guest volume to manage daily and weekly staffing schedules, serving as the Manager on Duty when the Activities Manager is unavailable.
  • Team Development & Mentorship:
    Assist in training, developing, and motivating the activity guide team, ensuring performance aligns with job standards, safety protocols, and resort core values.
  • Guest Experience & Hospitality:
    Deliver world-class, personalized outdoor experiences by anticipating guest needs, actively engaging with participants, and resolving guest inquiries or scheduling conflicts.
  • Resource & Equipment Stewardship:
    Oversee routine care, safety checks, and maintenance schedules for activity vehicles, gear, firearms, boats, and recreational equipment.
  • Interdepartmental

    Collaboration:

    Partner closely with Guest Experience Coordinators, concierge staff, and other resort departments to ensure seamless itinerary execution and clear operational communication.
  • Safety & Compliance Oversight:
    Enforce strict safety, emergency response, and risk management guidelines across all outdoor excursions, firearms, boating, and children's activity programs.
  • Ad-Hoc Duties:
    Perform additional duties as assigned by the Activities Manager or Wilderness Outpost leadership.
Qualifications
  • Experience:

    Applicable leadership experience in outdoor recreation, resort activity operations, or luxury hospitality required; experience with firearms, boating, or youth camps strongly preferred.
  • Specialized Knowledge:
    Vast array of knowledge regarding outdoor recreational activities (e.g., shooting sports, watercraft, hiking, kids' programs) and high-level guest service standards.
  • Core

    Skills:

    Strong leadership, scheduling, time management, and conflict resolution skills; decisive, adaptable, and articulate under fast-paced, changing conditions.
  • Technical Proficiency:
    Proficient with resort management/scheduling software, basic office applications, and outdoor equipment/vehicle operational safety.
  • Work Style:
    Self-motivated team builder with an adventurous spirit and passion for the outdoors who maintains a neat, professional presentation at all times.
  • Licensing/Certification:
    Valid State Driver’s License and First Aid Certification required (Wilderness First Responder/WFR or advanced EMS variant preferred);
    Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Mobility & Stamina:
    Ability to frequently stand, walk, hike, bend, stoop, and navigate outdoor terrain across a 37,000-acre ranch property in variable weather conditions for extended periods.
  • Scheduling:
    Ability to maintain full flexibility to work extended hours, early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by resort activity schedules.
  • Lifting & Handling:
    Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, or pull heavy outdoor gear, activity equipment, watercraft, and supplies weighing up to 50+ lbs.
