Ascendancy Recruiting is representing a mining company that is focused on the responsible development of one of the nation’s most productive silver and zinc mines in Montana.
PURPOSEOur client is seeking an experienced and relationship-driven Landman to manage land rights and agreements for their mining project in Montana. This on-site role is responsible for overseeing mineral rights, negotiating exploration agreements, and ensuring compliance with local regulations and company policies.
The ideal candidate will serve as a primary point of contact with landowners and the local community, facilitating responsible access to the project while supporting the company’s underground exploration and development efforts.
The landman will report to the Vice President of Exploration.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Conduct title research at county courthouses to verify ownership, mineral rights, and other obstacles.
- Utilize GIS software and plat maps to identify prospective land tracts and track acquisition progress across the project area.
- Travel to site locations and county courthouses as required to conduct land research, title work, and landowner negotiations.
- Lead negotiation of complex mineral leases, purchase options, and agreements with private and corporate landowners, conducting thorough due diligence to verify title, assess risk, and ensure compliance with legal requirements.
- Draft and review legal documents, including easements, deeds, and memoranda of lease, ensuring accuracy in legal descriptions and terms.
- Act as the liaison between the company and the community, resolve landowner disputes, and maintain a positive corporate presence in the area.
- Maintain clear organization and accurate tracking of work streams, milestones, and deliverables.
- Providing timely, concise, and professional communication of progress, risks, and outcomes to executive leadership and stakeholders.
- 5-10 years of experience as a landman, preferably in mining
- Experience with private lands and negotiating with landowners
- Strong knowledge of Montana land law and property rights
- Proven track record of closing land deals
- Deep knowledge of understanding deeds, leases, and titles
- Demonstrates strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
