Senior Researcher Position – Power System Operation, Control, and Optimization

IMDEA Energy Institute, a Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence, invites applications for a Senior Researcher in the Electrical Systems Unit.

• Lead one or several research lines in power systems, smart grids, renewable integration, flexibility, and energy markets.
• Help manage the research unit and its infrastructure.
• Prepare and manage national and international research project proposals.
• Collaborate with industry and international partners.
• Supervise personnel including PhD students, post‑doctoral, and senior assistant researchers.
• Disseminate research results via publications, technical reports, conferences, workshops, and technology transfer activities.

• Ph.D. in Electrical, Electronic or Control Systems Engineering.
• Solid background in Power Engineering, Control Systems and Electrical Machines.
• At least 10 years of postdoctoral experience, with a minimum of two years in a foreign institution.
• Principal investigator of at least two national or international projects.
• Proven track record in publishing research results.

• Deep understanding of Renewable and Energy Storage Technologies and planning and operation of Power Systems.
• Knowledge of DIgSILENT Power Factory, Matlab, Sim Power Systems , and other energy systems modelling tools.
• Beneficiary researcher of a national or international excellence program (e.g., Ramón y Cajal, Juan de la Cierva, Marie Curie Individual Fellowship, ERC grant).
• R3 / I3 Certificate.
• Outstanding record of indexed scientific publications related to the research topic.
• Experience in European research and innovation projects.
• International research experience (stays and collaborations).
• Experience in preparation of proposals with public and private funding.
• Experience supervising internships, master theses and PhD theses.
• Fluent oral and written communication skills in English.

• Adequacy of the candidate’s training to the requested profile.
• Relevant work experience.
• Motivation to produce high‑quality research.

Salary commensurate with qualification and expertise. The contract includes all benefits of the Spanish Public Health and Social Security System and is governed by current legislation.
