Sales LeadJob Description Position Summary
The Sales Lead is an hourly, regular full-time employee who acts as a supervisor to Sales Associates and a liaison to the Store Manager and Assistant Sales Manager. The Sales Lead ensures the business operates efficiently and provides direct supervision to sales associates.
Primary Duties Customer Service, Staff Supervision, and General Operations.1. Customer Service (75%)
75% of a Sales Lead’s time should be spent assisting customers and promoting sales, including but not limited to:
- Setting an example for Sales Associates by role-modeling excellent customer service
- Greeting customers in a professional and friendly manner upon entering the store
- Knowing and memorizing store policies, sales, promotions, and other events
- Answering customer questions regarding merchandise, policies, promotions, and local information; escalating issues when appropriate
- Improving customer engagement through active listening and product knowledge
- Staying up to date with new product releases, product locations, and inventory availability
- Executing trained up-selling techniques effectively
- Communicating with the Store Manager, fellow Shift Leads, and Associates about outstanding customer transactions or needs at shift changes or before breaks
10% of a Retail Sales Lead’s time should be spent monitoring Sales Associate performance and coordinating shift tasks.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Handling complex customer situations in compliance with Montana Supply policy and procedures
- Assigning and monitoring floor coverage/zoning for the day
- Coordinating breaks and lunches to avoid peak business hours
- Ensuring a minimum of two team members are on the floor after 10 a.m. during “in-season” operating hours (defined as Big Sky Resort’s open dates for skiing or mountain biking)
- Never leaving associates unsupervised on the floor without a Shift Lead or higher manager present (unless only two employees are scheduled)
- Addressing conflicts that may arise during a shift
- Documenting and communicating attendance issues (sick, late, no-show) to the Store Manager
- Training and coaching associates on sales skill development
15% of a Sales Lead’s time should be spent monitoring the day-to-day operations of the sales floor.
Duties include:
- Opening and closing the store on time
- Upholding company policies
- Ensuring all store closers leave together at the end of the workday
- Changing mannequins twice per month
- Maintaining a neat, clean, and organized sales floor, cash wrap, and fitting room area
- Monitoring equipment and supplies; reporting issues to the Store Manager
- Replenishing inventory stock levels on the sales floor as needed
- Maintaining point-of-sale supplies to support uninterrupted transactions
Actions or tasks based on prior knowledge or qualifications:
- Previous experience supervising teams
- Exceptional customer service and problem-solving skills
- Cash handling, including opening and closing registers
