Position Title:
The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is recruiting for a Carbella / Emigrant Field Maintenance Supervisor. They are responsible for planning and delivering maintenance projects (e.g., pavement overlays, bridge repairs, chip seals, drainage systems, winter road maintenance, etc.) involving multiple safety, engineering, and environmental considerations. The scope of duties includes coordinating and performing various maintenance projects; coordinating Section operations; supervision and performing a variety of other duties as assigned.
The incumbent reports to the Division Maintenance Superintendent and provides supervision for the Carbella/Emigrant Section Maintenance staff (this includes permanent and temporary employees). The Carbella/Emigrant Section Supervisor schedule is primarily a day job, but call‑ins regularly occur, and schedule may be adjusted as needed.
On‑site housing is available pending an MDT housing agreement.
RequiredEducation and Experience:
- Five (5) years of construction/field maintenance-related experience
- AND six (6) months of direct or one (1) year of indirect supervisory experience, preferably maintenance, construction, or another relevant field
- AND a valid Montana Commercial Operators License (Class A, Type II) with no restrictions, a tank endorsement and a valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate (MEC)
- Bachelor’s Degree in:
Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Technology, Business Management, Business Administration, or Public Administration - AND one (1) year of work-related experience
- AND six (6) months of direct or one (1) year of indirect supervisory experience, preferably maintenance, construction, or another relevant field
- AND a valid Montana Commercial Operators License (Class A, Type II) with no restrictions, a tank endorsement and a valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate (MEC)
Relocation assistance may be offered to the successful candidate at the time of offer.
The panel will evaluate all application materials to determine which top candidates to invite to participate in a behavioral-based interview.
A valid Montana Commercial Operators License (Class A, Type II) with endorsements for air brakes and tankers is required with no restriction for operating a manual transmission. Successful applicant must live or relocate within 30 road miles of the work headquarters and must have a telephone or be reasonably accessible to the section headquarters.
This position is being posted in accordance with the CRAFTS bargaining unit agreement. Preference will be given first to Bozeman Division bargaining unit applicants. If the position is not filled with a bargaining unit applicant, the non‑bargaining unit applicants may be considered at that time.
