Returning to the Land Culture Camp
This is a temporary position expected to last less than 30 days.

Position Summary
The Camp Security Staff play a critical role in ensuring the safety, security, and overall well-being of all participants, staff, and visitors at the Returning to the Land Culture Camp. Individuals in this role are responsible for maintaining a consistent on-site presence, monitoring the camp environment, and responding calmly and effectively to any situation that may arise.

This position requires strong judgment, reliability, and a commitment to upholding a respectful, substance-free environment rooted in cultural values and community care.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain a continuous on-site presence at the culture camp during assigned shifts, including overnight coverage as needed
• Monitor the camp perimeter regularly by foot to ensure safety and prevent unauthorized entry or unsafe conditions
• Provide a visible and approachable security presence to support a safe and welcoming environment
• Respond promptly and calmly to incidents, conflicts, or emergencies using good judgment and de-escalation techniques
• Assist camp staff with logistics as needed, including set-up, coordination, and participant support
• Enforce camp policies, including maintaining a substance-free environment
• Support staff and participants in a respectful, culturally sensitive manner
• Report any safety concerns, incidents, or policy violations to designated supervisors in a timely manner

Required Qualifications

• Ability to remain on-site for the duration of assigned shifts
• Strong observational skills and situational awareness
• Ability to walk the camp perimeter (including uneven terrain) multiple times per shift
• Demonstrated ability to handle tense or high-stress situations calmly and effectively
• Sound judgment and decision-making skills
• Reliable, dependable, and able to work independently and as part of a team
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Work Environment & Expectations

• This position is based entirely at an outdoor camp setting
• Work includes extended periods of standing, walking, and being outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Schedule may include evenings, overnight shifts, weekends, and long hours
• Staff must be comfortable working in a culturally grounded environment and supporting community-centered values

Substance-Free Requirement
The Returning to the Land Culture Camp is a strictly substance-free site.

The use or possession of any substances is prohibited at the camp, including but not limited to:

• Alcohol
• Marijuana (in any form)
• Vapes/e-cigarettes
• Tobacco products (including chew)
• Any other non-prescribed substances

Adherence to this policy is a condition of employment.
