The missions of the prevention and safety assistant are part of a national and academic policy related to the safety of schools and institutions and their surroundings, to the improvement of the school climate and to the securitization of school spaces and their access.

Upon recruitment, it is assigned to an institution (college, high school or EREA). The head of the institution is then its hierarchical superior.

It contributes to the analysis of the school climate to promote the implementation of a prevention policy.

It is involved in the implementation of prevention and security actions.

It participates in the improvement of the school climate jointly with the members of the educational teams of the institution (particularly the multidisciplinary prevention teams composed of principal counselors of education, medical and social personnel, psychologists of the national education...).

Its action does not replace the surveillance mission assigned to other education assistants of the institution.

It may, according to situations, be the interlocutor of external partners in connection with its missions. It contributes to the treatment of situations in case of crisis compromising the safety of persons and property.

As an exception, the prevention and safety assistant may intervene in another institution. It then intervenes in reinforcement of the EMS. During this period, it is then placed under the functional authority of the cabinet director of Madame the Rector and by delegation of the coordinator of the departmental mobile security team (EMS). The employment contract specifies this provision.

Ability to work in a team and to communicate, adaptability, mobility, sense of analysis and observation, calmness, capacity of listening and accompanying adolescents, sensitivity to the theme of security and safety, loyalty and exemplarity in the posture.

AEDs exercising other missions, benefiting from a permanent contract and meeting the diploma conditions may also be recruited for the prevention and security missions.

Different types of missions may be entrusted to it:

• Prevention actions, education towards students
• Actions towards staff
• Participation in the institution's instances
• Relay, under the authority of the head of the institution, with the mobile security teams (EMS)
• Favoring partnership actions
