Union Position – ELM Utility Services

ELM Utility Services, with over 1700 employees nationwide, offers an outstanding opportunity as a Utility Locate Technician in the Manhattan, Montana area. You will receive paid training by ELM using ELM equipment and the Launch Point software system to help make the job as simple and efficient as possible. Technicians provide a service to their community by marking utilities to prevent excavation damage to critical facilities.

Responsibilities
  • Work independently outdoors using the company‑provided vehicle as your mobile office, completing a route of locate requests each day.
  • Locate and mark underground utilities—including electric and gas lines, primarily—using marking paint, flags, and possibly whiskers. In some areas, you may also locate communications or other facilities.
  • Complete all necessary digital documentation and paperwork.
  • Receive daily route and locate requests by logging in each morning from your vehicle/mobile office handheld smartphone. No need to come to an office each day. The day normally starts at your residence and ends after the last locate job is completed.
  • Respond to emergency calls in a timely manner as directed.
  • Work periodic overtime; weekend on‑call rotation may be requested.
Qualifications
  • Ability to pass a pre‑employment drug test, motor vehicle record check, and background check. This is a safety‑sensitive DOT position that must comply with all Federal Department of Transportation regulations. The use of marijuana remains a drug listed in Schedule III of the Controlled Substances Act; both medical and recreational marijuana use are prohibited.
  • High school diploma or GED and at least 18 years of age.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Interviews will conclude on May 29th for classes beginning June 8, 2026.
