Carpenter I (Trainee)

Constructs, repairs, and maintains St. Labre residential houses and buildings conforming to required codes and maintains equipment and tools by performing the following duties.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

High school diploma or GED; and six months to one year related experience and/or training in carpentry or construction required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Must be able to use all hand tools, power tools, construction equipment, and auxiliary items.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts.
• Ability to interact positively with students, faculty, staff, and the general public.
• Mechanical aptitude.
• Respects the teachings of the gospel of Jesus Christ in private, personal, and public life.
• Commitment to the mission of the Roman Catholic Church in Native American education.
• Sensitivity to, and appreciation of Native American people and their cultures.
• Ability to serve as an appropriate role model for students.

Construction Technology Certificate preferred. Valid Montana driver's license required.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Manual dexterity for using hammers, saws, wrenches, and other hand tools is continuously required, with twisting and turning above the waist. These functions are also occasionally required while balancing on ladders, platforms, or other uneven working surfaces, as well as reaching over the head with tools for procedures.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
