Carpenter

The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity as a Carpenter at Montana State Hospital. The Carpenter is responsible for maintaining and repairing all buildings on campus including, but not limited to roofs, walls, ceilings, and floors; performing remodeling or new construction. This position also manages key/lock systems on campus and associated facilities.

Qualifications for this Career Opportunity:

  • Ability to interpret architectural blueprints, diagrams and plans.
  • Ability to calculate material requirements for projects.
  • Ability to construct wooden structures such as concrete forms, frameworks and scaffolding.
  • Ability to install wooden elements such as frames, stairways and furniture.
  • Ability to inspect for structural integrity post installation/maintenance.
  • Ability to manage inventory and supplies.
  • Ability to adhere to safety policies and regulations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to complete general math calculations.
  • Ability to work in various conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Meet the following minimum qualifications:
    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Completion of a four-year apprenticeship program.
    • Or completion of a two-year trade school.
    • Two years of job-related experience preferred.
    • Certification as a journeyman carpenter preferred.
