OverviewThe Waste and Environment department is accepting applications for up to four (4) seasonal term positions of Recycling Station and Yard Waste Site Attendant.
Job PostingSTATUS: Seasonal Term
HOURS OF WORK: 40 hours per week, evening and weekend shift work will be required
PAYRATE: $30.14 per hour
In this role, you will:- Maintain and oversee the daily operation of the yard waste site
- Provide direction and information to customers
- Manage the site, including litter control at both the recycling depots and yard waste sites
- Explain by-laws, policies and programs regarding waste and recycling, as required
- Use an automated brush chipper, compactor and other small hand tools
- Perform minor routine repairs, when required
- Complete regular basic recordkeeping
- On inclement weather days, staff may be moved to do other related duties, such as cart/bin maintenance, sanitation barn cleanup, and litter control at other locations
- Staff will rotate through all sites based on a provided schedule
Experience:
- Must have completed a high school diploma or equivalent
- A valid class 5 license is required, and a Driver’s Abstract that is satisfactory to the City of Lethbridge
- Excellent customer service skills to build and maintain positive relationships with customers
- Knowledge about Waste and Environment programs offered in Lethbridge
- Basic computer skills
- Proven ability to adhere to Health and Safety processes and programs
- Good mechanical aptitude to perform minor maintenance and assist in diagnosing operating problems
- The physical ability and stamina to perform heavy manual labour for extended periods of time under various weather conditions is required

If you are not currently an employee of the City of Lethbridge, at the time an offer of employment is to be provided, as a condition of employment, you will be responsible for providing a copy of a five-year Commercial OR Non-Commercial Driver’s Abstract. The Driver’s Abstract must be obtained within 30 calendar days of the offer date, and the cost of obtaining the Abstract will be the responsibility of the applicant.
If you do not submit an Abstract, or the Abstract shows 6 or more demerits or includes any of the unacceptable driving record items listed below, your offer of employment may be rescinded. The City of Lethbridge reserves the right to determine what is a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract.
An unacceptable driving record includes, but is not limited to:
- A record of any suspension of Operator’s License within the preceding three years which is related to a driving offence.
- An overall driving history that reflects poor driving behavior, will be determined at the discretion of the City.
- Within the preceding three years any Criminal Code or Provincial driving conviction including:
- Impacted Driving related offence
- Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Criminal Flight from a Peace Officer
- Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Accident
- Drive while Disqualified/Prohibited
- Careless Driving
