Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse is responsible for delivering safe patient care using the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation). Provides direct patient care within the scope of practice and guides patient/family teaching and activities of other nursing personnel while maintaining professional standards. Directly responsible and accountable for care in the Emergency Department. Communicates with the physician about changes in the patient’s clinical condition, diagnostic results, and symptoms.

Responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality and complies with EMTALA regulations and reporting of abuse to appropriate agencies and hospital social workers.

Qualifications Education, Experience, Training

Current and valid state RN License.

Current BLS certificate (on hire and maintained).

Current ACLS certificate (within 30 days of hire and maintained).

Current PALS certificate and/or ENPC (within 30 days of hire and maintained).

Basic Arrhythmia Interpretation within 30 days of hire.

Minimum of one year experience as a staff nurse RN in an acute care hospital setting; ED experience preferred.

Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) preferred.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Facility Specific Requirements

In Paramedic Base Station ED: MICN within 12 months of hire and maintained.

EDAP certified facilities:
Completion of emergency pediatric course 1 and 2 within 6 months of hire.

Non-OB facilities: NRP certificate within 90 days of hire and maintained.

Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNNC) within 12 months of hire.
