Overview
Montclair Kimberley Academy, an innovative Pre-K – 12 independent day school with a strong national reputation, seeks an Upper School Science teacher who can also teach Physics, Environmental Science, and/or Chemistry, beginning in the 2026-27 academic year. The successful candidate will join MKA at an exciting time of growth for our STEM+ program and facilities, (including the recent opening of our new Inquiry and Innovation Center), will teach four sections of science, and will collaborate with other faculty in the Science department on new approaches to teaching and learning, including new uses for technology in and out of the classroom.
Other responsibilities include serving as an academic advisor for a group of approximately eight students, as well as, ideally, coaching a sport and/or supervising an extracurricular activity.
Qualified applicants will meet the following criteria:
- A bachelor s degree in physics, environmental science, chemistry, or a closely related field — MS or PhD preferred
- Teaching experience preferred
- Experience mentoring students is a plus
- Implement a diverse range of instructional strategies for a student-centered approach in the 75-minute block period.
- Invest in our commitment to culturally responsive pedagogy in the context of science education.
- Show commitment to helping students one-on-one outside the classroom.
- Demonstrate the ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students with varying learning styles and levels of ability.
Candidates should possess a passion for science and student research in science; a commitment to fostering scientific curiosity and promoting a classroom culture of scientific inquiry; a desire to highlight real-world connections; flexibility and a willingness to innovate in curriculum, assessment, and teaching methods; an enthusiasm for collaborative teamwork; outstanding interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills; and a dedication to ongoing professional growth.

Final compensation will be determined based on teaching experience.
