Position OverviewL’Alliance New York’s Montclair Campus seeks teachers to teach French to children, teens, and adults. Teachers plan, deliver, and assess engaging lessons, bringing patience, creativity, and care to the classroom. The campus offers programs for toddlers, children, teens, and adults, from beginner to advanced levels, with pathways for native speakers.
Key Responsibilities- Design and implement comprehensive teaching plans in French language and culture for learners of all ages and levels, including both French as a foreign language and programs for native French speakers.
- Use a variety of engaging activities and instructional methods tailored to each audience to support learning and build students’ confidence and abilities.
- Foster a positive classroom environment by guiding student interactions and encouraging cooperation and sharing.
- Assess students’ performance and progress regularly to ensure skill development and achievement.
- Prepare and organize instructional materials and resources.
- Collaborate with administrative staff to support program operations.
- Follow and uphold L’Alliance New York’s teaching standards.
- Contribute to the development and organization of educational, cultural, and social activities that strengthen the campus community.
- Participate in development and collaboration for events, within and outside of L’Alliance New York, to attract new students and members.
- Participate in outreach and collaborative initiatives to support student enrollment and community engagement.
- Teach French classes in person Tuesday through Saturday.
- Teaching hours can be scheduled Tuesday through Friday between 9:45 am and 5:45 pm, or between 1:15 pm and 9:15 pm, and Saturday between 8:45 am and 4:45 pm. Schedules may change by session.
This is an hourly‑paid position with variable schedules depending on enrollment and program needs.

- Native French speaker or equivalent proficiency; able to communicate clearly in English.
- Proven experience teaching French as a foreign language, including experience with young learners.
- Solid knowledge of current educational theories and best practices in foreign language teaching.
- Strong understanding of French and Francophone cultures.
- Creative and artistic teaching abilities; experience in performing or visual arts is a plus.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and classroom management skills.
- Patience, flexibility, and the ability to adapt to diverse learning styles.
- Commitment to staying up to date with trends and best practices in language education.
- Master’s degree in teaching French as a foreign language, or relevant bachelor’s degree/certificate (e.g., Licence FLE, DAEFLE, or equivalent).
- Valid U.S. work authorization (no visa sponsorship).
