Position: Cultural Engagement and Participation Manager (Arts & Cultural Programming)

Overview

The Cultural Engagement and Participation Manager reports to the Dean of the College of the Arts and is responsible for developing and managing the Arts and Cultural Programming’s cultural engagement and participation initiative for Montclair State University students, faculty, and staff. This is a 10‑month position during the academic year, commencing on August1 and concluding on May
31.

Key Responsibilities
  • Reconceive and articulate desired outcomes and impacts of the program in collaboration with the ACP Director and faculty.
  • Design and execute inclusive, mission‑driven education, engagement, participation and learning opportunities for students on campus, including post‑performance talkbacks, master classes, workshops, symposia, open rehearsals and special events.
  • Link specific courses and learning objectives to the PEAK Performances season and their associated visiting artists.
  • Offer free tickets to the PEAK Performance season, targeting approximately 20% of seats for MSU students (≈750 tickets per year).
  • Conceptualize, develop and implement online and digital strategies for participation and engagement.
  • Collaborate with academic departments to design programs aligned with ACP’s co‑curriculum mission.
  • Recruit and work with an ACP Student Advisory Board throughout the academic year.
  • Work closely with the Director, General Manager and Marketing Manager of PEAK Performances/ACP and part‑time staff.
  • Monitor program activities, collect participation metrics and anecdotal feedback.
  • Maintain professional relationships with faculty, students, staff, volunteers and the public.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience with a professional company (producer or presenter) or a university arts training program in the production or presentation of live dance, theater, music, opera, or cinema.
  • Basic knowledge of at least three of the following disciplines: arts education, dance, music, theater, musical theater, and cinema.
  • Flexible schedule and ability to work evenings and weekends as required by performance and event schedules.
Preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to igniting passion for live performance within an inclusive community of young adults (18‑24).
  • Basic understanding of the live performance process (rehearsal, production, technical, teaching/learning).
  • Bachelor’s degree with concentration in performing arts, education, communication or humanities.
  • Ability to engage faculty across academic disciplines and build sustainable relationships.
  • Experience planning, developing, and implementing education programs in a performing arts context.
  • Work experience with an academic institution, preferably in cultural engagement or equivalent.
  • Independent and collaborative work skills, strong project management, and organization.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, and comparable software on Apple or PC platforms.
  • Decision‑making, problem‑solving, budgeting experience, and hospitality or customer‑service training.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Adaptability to changing work demands, procedures, technology, or priorities.
Compensation & Benefits

Salary Range: $63,833.23–$73,415.99per year. The position may also be eligible for comprehensive benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, and tuition assistance.
