DCS-Sanitation and Recycling Compliance Inspector – Montclair Township

The Township of Montclair is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented part‑time Code Enforcement Officer / Sanitation & Recycling Compliance Inspector to monitor and enforce municipal sanitation, recycling, and organics collection regulations. This field‑based position is responsible for conducting inspections, investigating complaints, educating residents, documenting violations, and enforcing Township ordinances related to waste collection and recycling compliance.

• Inspect residential and commercial properties for sanitation, recycling, and organics compliance.
• Issue warnings and summonses when necessary.
• Maintain detailed inspection records and preparing reports for the Municipal Court.
• Coordinate with sanitation and recycling operations.
• Work independently and maintain accurate records.
• Respond to complaints, investigate violations, and enforce Township ordinances.

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Valid New Jersey Driver’s License.
• Ability to report consistently for a 5:00 AM start time.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong independent decision‑making and ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Experience in code enforcement, municipal inspections, sanitation operations, law enforcement, or a related field.
• Experience issuing violations, summonses, or conducting regulatory inspections.

$25.65–$37.56 per hour; does not include health benefits or state pension membership.
