Police Department is seeking two (2) PTC-certified Special Law Enforcement Officer Class II (SLEO II) candidates for part-time, one-year appointments. Position 1: 20 hours per week Position 2:
Maximum of 28 hours per week. A SLEO II is authorized under New Jersey law to perform many of the same duties as full-time police officers, including enforcement actions once fully PTC-certified and licensed. Officers serve in support roles that enhance public safety, visibility, and community engagement throughout the Township. Montclair PD will assign SLEO II officers to high-visibility community safety functions, including:

• Walking posts focused on quality-of-life issues in the Central Business District and surrounding neighborhoods;
• Court operations and municipal ordinance enforcement;
• Special events staffing and crowd management;
• Traffic and pedestrian crossings during peak periods and Township functions;
• SLEO II officers may also work Township road jobs at current PBA-established rates only when those jobs go unfilled by Montclair Police officers and prior to being outsourced to surrounding agencies.

Schedule:

Tuesday–Saturday, 1600–2100 Hours may be adjusted as needed by the Police Department.

Minimum Qualifications:

PTC Certified (SLEO II);
New Jersey resident;
Valid NJ driver’s license Demonstrated good moral character, physical fitness, and ability to pass all background checks consistent with NJ PTC standards;
Ability to work assigned schedule, special details, and community-focused deployments
