About Hope’s Promise
Hope’s Promise provides relationship‑centered, dignity‑driven support for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Our mentors offer companionship, community engagement, and steady encouragement — always grounded in respect, autonomy, and person‑centered care.
If you’re calm, patient, and comfortable supporting adults who communicate in a variety of ways (including nonverbally), this role may be a great fit.
What You’ll Do- Minimum of 10 hours of visits per week
- Meeting weekly with each participant at their home or for community-based activities. Each visit is 3 to 6 hours depending on scheduling and availability.
- Supporting communication in the way the participant communicates (verbal, nonverbal, gestures, devices, etc.)
- Responding calmly to stimming, pacing, echolalia, or other self‑regulation behaviors
- Encouraging independence and self‑advocacy
- Participating in simple, structured activities based on the participant’s interests
- Documenting visits in a short, easy format
- Communicating with your supervisor about progress, concerns, or wins
- Driving the participant to and from community activities
- Patient, steady, and emotionally regulated
- Comfortable with nonverbal communication
- Able to remain calm during repetitive or unexpected behaviors
- Respectful of neurodiversity and individual differences
- Good at following routines and safety guidelines
- Someone who shows up consistently, even on tough days
- Experience in intellectual disabilities, ABA, DSP work, special education, or caregiving is helpful — we train and support you.
We don’t expect you to be an expert. We expect you to be present, kind, and consistent.
You’ll receive:
- Clear onboarding with step‑by‑step expectations
- Training on communication styles, including nonverbal and AAC
- Guidance on supporting stimming and self‑regulation behaviors
- Weekly support check‑ins during your first month
- You are never left alone to figure things out.
- Must be 18+
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Ability to pass background checks
- Comfort supporting adults with diverse communication and behavioral needs
- Willingness to commit to weekly meetings
- Basic comfort with simple digital documentation
- Part‑time, flexible scheduling
