Position: Assistant Teacher for Infants/ Toddlers- Beverly Blvd- Los Angeles

Introduction: We are seeking a compassionate, skilled Infant/Toddler Assistant Teacher to join our team and provide high-quality educational support and care for young children. The Infant/Toddler Assistant will be responsible for supporting the teacher in preparing classroom materials, supervising and interacting with children, and assisting in maintaining a safe and nurturing environment. The successful candidate will have strong communication and problem-solving skills and be able to work collaboratively with other team members.

General

Functions

Under the guidance of the Site Supervisor and classroom Teacher, the Infant/Toddler Assistant provides nurturing care and support to infants and toddlers in a safe, supervised early care and educational setting. The Assistant supports daily routines, promotes positive social and emotional development, and helps maintain a clean, engaging, and responsive environment. The Assistant follows all agency policies, procedures, and applicable Federal and State regulations to contribute to program goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Child Development and Care
  • Promote feelings of security and trust in infants and toddlers through warm, responsive interactions.
  • Talk, sing, and read to children frequently to support early language development.
  • Assist with personal hygiene needs, including diapering, toileting, cleaning, and feeding.
  • Observe children to identify signs of illness, injury, or other concerns; report observations promptly to the Teacher or Site Supervisor.
  • Help implement developmentally appropriate activities planned by the Teacher.
  • Assist in adapting activities to meet individual needs and abilities.
  • Prepare materials and set up the classroom environment to encourage exploration and learning.
Curriculum and Assessment
  • Support the Teacher in preparing classroom materials and learning centers.
  • Assist with documentation and observation as directed.
  • Participate in classroom activities and routines to support the achievement of learning objectives.
  • Maintain accurate daily records assigned (e.g., meal counts, attendance).
Family Engagement
  • Maintain a welcoming, respectful attitude toward all families.
  • Communicate daily information about children’s routines and well-being to parents and guardians, as appropriate and directed.
  • Support the Teacher during parent meetings and conferences as needed.
Collaboration and Professionalism
  • Maintain a positive, calm, and professional demeanor.
  • Participate actively as part of the classroom team.
  • Follow direction and guidance from the Teacher, Site Supervisor, and program leadership.
  • Collaborate respectfully with coworkers, volunteers, and families.
  • Protect children from any form of physical punishment or verbal abuse and report any concerns immediately.
  • Maintain confidentiality of records and information.
Compliance and Administrative Duties
  • Follow Title 22 and Title 5 regulations and all program policies and procedures.
  • Support compliance with health and safety standards, including cleaning and sanitizing routines.
  • Complete required documentation and reports accurately and promptly as directed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support classroom and program needs.
Education and Qualifications
  • Completion of at least six (6) units of Early Childhood Education (ECE) classes within the required community care licensing core course matrix, including three (3) units in infant/toddler development.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Current Child Development Assistant Teacher Permit.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with infants and toddlers, including children with disabilities.
  • Commitment to confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
Other Considerations
  • Must be able to perform light physical work, including lifting and carrying children weighing 14–30 pounds.
  • Requires bending, crouching, kneeling, and other movements to meet children’s needs.
  • Ability to maintain performance under pressure and handle stress professionally.
  • Must contribute to a work environment that is safe and free from unpleasant conditions.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment physical and TB risk assessment required.
