Position Information

Open Competitive recruitment to create an eligibility list for current and future openings. Successful candidates are expected to work eight (8) hours a day, five (5) days a week, and twelve (12) months a year (swing or evening shift). The hours for this vacancy are 2:00pm - 10:30pm. Applicants must submit proof of all required documents to be considered for the recruitment process.

Shift Differential Information

The salary range listed on the top of the job specification/bulletin is for full‑time incumbents who work a regular shift. Incumbents working a regular shift are placed on Salary Schedule B:
Range 348‑C ($3,719.85 – 4,890.75 Monthly).

Full time incumbents that start their shift before 6:00am or after 1:00pm receive shift differential pay. Shift differential employees under this classification are placed on Salary Schedule B:
Range 358‑C ($3,814.25 – 5,013.99 Monthly).

General Purpose

Under general supervision, cleans classrooms, offices and other areas at an assigned school or facility; assigns, coordinates and inspects the work of custodial personnel on an assigned shift; assists in the training of custodial personnel; and performs related duties as assigned.

Distinguishing Characteristics

Incumbents of the Custodian 2 class serve as the shift lead worker at a large school or District facility. This class is distinguished from Custodian 1 in that in addition to handling a regular cleaning assignment, incumbents also coordinate activities between custodial personnel to ensure cleaning assignments are properly completed and that custodial personnel have the necessary supplies to complete their assignments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs a variety of tasks related to the day‑to‑day custodial operations of assigned facilities; trains and provides work direction and scheduling for regular and part‑time custodial personnel; coordinates day and night work schedules.
  • Washes windows, walls, tables, desks and benches; polishes metal work; dusts and cleans furniture and woodwork; sweeps, scrubs, mops and waxes floors; vacuums rugs and carpets; cleans restrooms; refills dispensers.
  • Assists in moving and arranging furniture and equipment and setting up for meetings and for special events.
  • Operates a variety of custodial equipment including floor stripper, buffer, carpet shampooer, vacuum cleaner, power blower and small power and hand tools; drives a light truck as assigned.
  • Makes minor non‑technical maintenance repairs to fixtures, furniture and facilities; replaces lights; adjusts desks and other furniture.
  • Removes graffiti from walls and walkways by using appropriate solution or painting over words and designs; reports graffiti that is unable to be removed or covered.
  • Picks up papers and other debris on grounds and walks; sweeps walks and waters shrubs.
  • Unlocks and locks doors and secures buildings; raises and lowers flags as assigned.
  • Empties and cleans garbage and trash receptacles; assists in thorough cleaning and restoration of one or more school plants during school vacation; performs special custodial work upon request; answers requests for setting up classrooms, cafeterias and auditoriums for special events.
  • Maintains, stores, inventories and requisitions custodial supplies and equipment; submits work order requests; maintains related routine records.
  • Operates and adjusts heating and ventilating equipment; contacts maintenance to report needed repairs.
  • Trains, assigns and guides a custodial crew during a swing‑shift; provides input to the supervisor for employee evaluations based upon inspection of assigned tasks as completed.
