Position: Dock Worker/Forklift Operator -Part Time (PM SHIFT)

Job Summary

The dockworker must efficiently load and unload freight, ensuring that the correct items are placed on the right trucks. Safety is paramount; dock workers use forklifts, pallet jacks, and manual techniques to handle materials. Freight must be secured with airbags, cardboard, straps, and other appropriate tools to prevent damage during transport. The role directly impacts the reliability of deliveries to customers.

Primary

Responsibilities
  • Load and unload freight on trailers using a motorized forklift, pallet jack, or manually, in compliance with state and federal DOT guidelines.
  • Use various loading techniques, such as tight or cross loading.
  • Transport freight continuously throughout the service center on non‑forgiving surfaces.
  • Utilize the Dock Yard Management System to monitor freight shipment locations.
  • Read and interpret shipping labels.
  • Complete forms related to freight movement, including shipping orders, city stripping manifests, freight bills, and overage/damage reports.
  • Hand‑load, rewrap, or stack freight as necessary.
  • Secure freight inside trailers using appropriate tools and supplies (e.g., pallets, straps, rope).
  • Maintain frequent communication with service center personnel in a fast‑paced, deadline‑oriented environment.

Job Qualifications
  • High school degree or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of safe and efficient lifting and transporting procedures.
  • Knowledge of freight transportation procedures and loading techniques such as tight and cross loading.
  • Familiarity with and ability to complete freight movement forms (shipping orders, manifests, bills, etc.).
  • Ability to use the Dock Yard Management System to monitor shipment locations.
  • Availability to work at all times required by customer pickup and delivery schedules.
  • Proficiency with handheld tablets when needed.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English.
Physical Demands

Must stand or walk on non‑forgiving surfaces for up to 8 hours per shift, 5–7 days per week. Must be able to lift and handle objects weighing up to 100lb, perform frequent squatting, bending, kneeling, and climbing to load and unload freight, and operate forklifts. Must be able to work in hot or cold climates and in environments with noise and odors.

Environment

Work involves loading and unloading freight in various settings, including enclosed vehicles and trailers, with exposure to all weather conditions, varying noise levels, and lighting conditions. Activities may include operating forklifts, driving, and maintaining clear pathways and safe work areas.

Working Days & Shift

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. PM shift. These guidelines may change with business levels.

Compensation Range

$20.00 – $24.00 per hour.
