Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the library administrator, perform library administrative and technical operations, including circulation desk activities, interpreting policies, processing materials, and providing patron support.
Customer Service: Assist patrons in person, by phone, or electronically; provide information about programs, services, resources; answer questions, clarify policies, and resolve problems.
Circulation: Check materials in/out; issue cards; update records; collect fees; schedule rooms; inspect, repair, re‑house, and clean materials; notify and follow up on overdue items; maintain statistics; keep a clean, organized desk.
Reserves: Receive and process library reserves.
Inter‑Library Loans: Notify reciprocal libraries of delinquencies, renew checkouts, and communicate status to patrons.
Acquisitions: Receive and enter periodicals via Integrated Library systems; conduct inventory; process new materials; update local systems for new, replacement, or withdrawn items.
General Operations: Assist opening/closing, secure building; maintain stacks, dust, shelves; update signage; assist displays, programming, special events; maintain accurate records and files.
Other Duties- Maintain a clean and orderly library environment.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Any combination of education, experience, and training that demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Example: one year in a library or customer‑service environment; college‑level Library Science courses; experience using library technologies and software.
KnowledgeKnowledge of basic library principles and practices;
Library of Congress classification; current technology/software, databases, and networks; technical processing policies; filing and indexing; circulation and reference sources; office methods; ordering books, supplies, equipment; word processing, spreadsheets, database programs.
Perform general library duties efficiently; use online library system and classification; learn new technologies; interact effectively with public and staff; prioritize tasks; operate office machines; use word processing, database, presentation, spreadsheet software accurately; use judgment; use correct English; perform arithmetic calculations; communicate orally and in writing; establish work relationships; demonstrate sensitivity to diversity.
Physical Effort / Work EnvironmentModerate physical effort: frequent standing, walking, occasional climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, stooping, pushing/pulling, lifting up to 35 lbs; indoor environment.
Work Schedule15–25 hours per week; may include evenings and weekends when the library is open; schedule may change.
Rate of PayStep A ($23.58) – Step C ($26.04).
