Construction Safety Director
Avila Construction is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Construction Safety Director to join our team. This position plays a critical role in ensuring that all construction activities meet internal safety protocols and comply with federal, state (Cal/OSHA), and local regulations. The Construction Safety Director will work closely with superintendents, project managers, subcontractors, and office staff to promote and enforce a culture of safety and maintain proper documentation for regulatory compliance.
This position requires exceptional organizational skills, clear communication, and the ability to manage multiple priorities across project sites. The ideal candidate is not only detail-oriented but also deeply committed to staying informed on the latest OSHA regulations, industry standards, and compliance protocols. We are looking for someone who takes ownership of safety as a core responsibility, and will actively seek out training opportunities, legislative updates, and best practices to continuously improve our internal safety culture.

Job Responsibilities- Maintain and track safety documentation, including training records, incident reports, and site safety audits
- Conduct regular job site safety inspections and communicate findings to project team
- Facilitate and document safety meetings, toolbox talks, and jobsite orientations
- Coordinate safety training sessions and ensure staff and subcontractors maintain current certifications
- Assist in the investigation of job site accidents or near misses; compile reports and follow up on corrective actions
- Support the preparation and submission of reports required by regulatory agencies (e.g., OSHA logs, training records, site inspections, etc.)
- Create OSHA permits.
- Collaborate with project managers and site superintendents to create and ensure compliance with site-specific safety plans for each project.
- Maintain an organized safety file for each active project; monitor expiration dates for plans, certifications, and permits
- Participate in company-wide safety audits and contribute to continuous improvement of the safety program
- Stay current with regulatory changes and recommend updates to safety procedures as needed
- Provide administrative support to Safety Manager or Operations Team as assigned
- Annual review of IIPP to update with new rules/regulations
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience in construction safety or compliance-related role
- OSHA 30-hour certification required
- Strong working knowledge of Cal/OSHA standards and safety protocols applicable to construction
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with professionalism in all interactions
- Highly organized with ability to track and manage documentation across multiple projects
- Detail-oriented with ability to manage compliance paperwork, training logs, and incident reports accurately and timely
- Comfortable presenting safety trainings and leading tailgate meetings
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and PDF mark-up software (such as Bluebeam)
- Experience with project management software (Procore, Fieldwire, etc.) is a plus
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
- Valid California Driver's License
- Ability to pass background check
