PurposeUnder the general direction of the Director of Otter Care, the Otter Care Intake & Student Support Coordinator serves as the primary front‑facing support staff member for Otter Care services. The incumbent provides intake, triage, and general service navigation for students experiencing barriers such as food insecurity, short‑term financial hardship, academic or general wellbeing concerns.
This position focuses on front desk operations, lower‑complexity 1:1 student support, and operational assistance to Otter Care Care Coordinators to ensure effective service delivery.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Serve as the primary point of contact for students accessing Otter Care services within the Dean of Students Office.
- Conduct intake and assess student needs using a socio‑ecological assessment approach, considering multiple factors impacting student well‑being and access to resources.
- Triage and refer students to appropriate resources or higher‑level professional staff when situations involve greater complexity, risk, or sensitivity.
- Respond to student inquiries via in‑person, phone, virtual, and shared program communication channels.
- Conduct follow‑up communication to support student connection to services.
- Maintain a welcoming, inclusive, and student‑centered service environment.
- Coordinate student access to public benefits through Benefits Cal, including Cal Fresh, CalWORKs, and Medi‑Cal, by guiding application completion, troubleshooting barriers, and supporting follow‑through.
- Assess student food security needs and implement appropriate interventions, including connecting students to emergency food resources and ongoing nutrition support services.
- Coordinate outreach efforts to increase student awareness and utilization of Otter Care services, with a focus on benefit enrollment and food access.
- Collaborate with county social services and community partners to streamline referrals, resolve application issues, and strengthen pathways to public benefits.
- Support continuity of care by documenting benefit‑related interactions, tracking application progress, and coordinating follow‑up to ensure students successfully access services.
- Maintain and strengthen partnerships, resource networks, and service pathways that expand student access to food security and public benefits.
- Deliver outreach and engagement activities that increase student awareness of Otter Care services, including workshops, tabling, presentations, and targeted communications.
- Provide generalist support across Otter Care initiatives as assigned, assisting with service delivery that addresses students’ basic needs, wellbeing, and access to resources.
- Collaborate with campus partners to coordinate outreach efforts and expand access points for students seeking support.
- Assist with implementation of programs and services that promote student wellbeing, including support for food access initiatives and other basic needs efforts.
- Provide guidance and day‑to‑day direction to student assistants, supporting onboarding, training, and effective service delivery.
- Perform other job‑related duties and special projects as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
Working knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior, procedures and activities of the program to which assigned, general knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management.
