Position: LECTURER AD-3/SENIOR LECTURER AD-5 (DEFENSE CONTRACT MANAGEMENT)

Lecturer Position in Defense Contract Management Department of Acquisition, Finance, and Manpower Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, CA

The Department of Acquisition, Finance, and Manpower (DAFM) at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) seeks candidates for a Lecturer position in defense contract management. Responsibilities include teaching graduate courses in defense contract management. This is an on-campus position.

NPS is an educational institution within the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD). It is located on the coast in Monterey, California, about 140 miles south of San Francisco. DAFM is one of the departments within NPS, which awards graduate degrees in sciences, engineering, national security, computer science, operations research, and management. Students include U.S. and international military officers from all services, as well as federal employees.

DAFM has over 40 full‑time faculty members, about 350 full‑time resident students and approximately 200 part‑time distance learning students. The Western Association of Schools and Colleges accredits NPS and its degrees.

Candidates for this position should show evidence of strong commitment to graduate‑level teaching in a DOD academic institution. Candidates should also display a willingness to teach both resident and distance learning courses. NPS offers courses year‑round on an 11‑week quarter basis.

Minimum Qualifications for Lecturer, AD‑03:
  • A graduate degree in a discipline that supports the departmental instructional needs;
  • evidence of teaching aptitude; and
  • expertise in the field applicable to the DoD;
Minimum Qualifications for Senior Lecturer, AD‑05:
  • A graduate degree in a discipline that supports the departmental instructional needs;
  • broad experience (typically 6 years) as a faculty member in an accredited institution of higher education;
  • evidence of excellent teaching; and
  • a reputation for expertise in the discipline in the DoD.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to teach contract management related courses
    , such as principles of acquisition and contract management, contract law, contract administration, contingency contracting, cost/price analysis, contract negotiations, services contracting, contracting for major systems, and acquisition and contracting policy.
  • A graduate degree in a management‑related discipline, but preference will be given to candidates with a graduate degree in defense contract management.
  • Significant defense contract management experience and expertise (e.g., warranted contracting officer).
  • Legacy DAWIA Level III certification in Contract Management.
Highly Desired

Qualifications:
  • A proven track record of teaching effectiveness is highly desired.
  • Experience in distance learning methods and technologies is highly desired.
  • Professional certification in contract management (e.g., CFCM or CPCM) is highly desired.
