Job Description & DutiesUnder the supervision of the Supervisor of Correctional Education Programs, the Academic Teacher provides both individual and group instruction; has responsibility for supervising the conduct of inmates while in the classroom and may be called upon to assume general custodial responsibilities in time of emergency; controls all materials and equipment which may be used as weapons; prepares courses of study and daily lesson plans;
counsels students as to progress in the instructional program; works with students and helps them set and meet educational goals; participates in program evaluation; inspects work areas and searches students for contraband; and plans, assigns and supervises work.
- Provide both individual and group instruction.

- New to CDCR or the Division of Juvenile Justice applicants must submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by departmental annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.

- Applicants who completed their education outside of the US must obtain and submit verification of U.S. course/degree equivalency.
