The Monterey Peninsula College’s Enhancing Diversity in STEM through Magnified Resources, Completion support, and Career Preparation (E=MC2) HSI-STEM Grant allows for temporary employees to support various HSI-STEM programming under the EMC^2 grant. Temporary employment can include support with the outreach team, support the STEM department with student completion and success initiatives, and administrative duties with STEM work-based experiences.
Responsibilities- Support outreach team efforts related to the HSI-STEM program.
- Assist the STEM department with student completion and success initiatives.
- Perform administrative duties for STEM work‑based experience programs.
- High school degree or equivalent.
- Employment experience in higher education supporting student success in STEM disciplines.
- Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise tact, sensitivity, independent judgment, diplomacy, flexibility, and discretion.
- Organizational ability to track and follow up on tasks.
- Customer service skills and a positive, welcoming approach.
- Responsive to needs, solicits feedback, and meets commitments.
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline.
- Experience in student development, including mentoring and academic support to foster student success.
- Experience in outreach and community engagement, such as community tabling events, awareness campaigns, and collaborative programming.
- Experience working in an academic setting (college, K‑12).
Medium physical effort; frequent standing, walking, and lifting materials up to 40 pounds. Indoor/outdoor work, occasional weather exposure.
Work ScheduleShort‑term, non‑continuous employment. Up to 29 hours per week (maximum 180 days per fiscal year). Monday–Sunday, 9:00 am–4:00 pm (up to 29 hours/week). Weekends may be required as needed. Management reserves right to change schedules.
Salary$20 per hour base salary (minimum experience). Base salary may increase upon review of background and specialization.
