Position: (Part-Time Faculty Pool) - TRIO Student Support Services

Monterey Peninsula College is currently accepting applications to establish a pool for future part‑time teaching assignments in this discipline.

Position Definition

Under the supervision of the Dean of Career Education and the guidance of the Department, the part‑time instructor will provide instruction according to course descriptions, outlines, class schedules, and Governing Board policy; evaluate students’ progress; and perform other instructional duties as assigned. The instructor may teach at the Monterey campus and/or Marina Education Center. Travel to instructional sites is required, with reimbursement for mileage.

Duties

and Responsibilities
  • Assist students in the development and review of their Student Education Plans.
  • Assist students in developing short‑term and long‑range educational goals, emphasizing the attainment of an Associate’s degree and transfer to a four‑year institution.
  • Provide referral and follow‑up to appropriate Student Services programs and resources.
  • Develop and conduct workshops on follow‑up services, student success, study skills, time management, financial literacy, and career/major exploration.
  • Participate in recruitment, assessment, orientation, early alert, follow‑up, and advising activities.
  • Report student information to appropriate databases.
  • Teach the Personal Development (PERS) course.
  • Attend department meetings.
  • Notify the appropriate division chair or administrator in advance of unavoidable absences.
  • Provide each student at the beginning of the course with written information about the course, including a full description of the grading system and evaluation methods.
  • Accurately keep required class records on attendance, withdrawal, and grading.
  • Submit all necessary reports—attendance, grade reports, roll books, and class information sheets—upon completion and certify their accuracy.
  • Comply with all institutional policies and procedures.
  • Give careful attention to all bulletins, memorandums, and emails from administrative offices.
  • Check faculty mailbox and MPC email frequently.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of, sensitivity to, and appreciation for the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and staff.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, or career development.
  • Equivalent credentials and experience, with Equivalency Forms submitted for consideration.

Teaching assignments are part‑time and temporary in nature. The District retains the right of assignment. Assignments are subject to Governing Board approval, adequate enrollment size, and assignment to a contract instructor.
