Monterey Regional Airport, California Assistant Controller
The Assistant Controller is a key member of the finance team and serves as a critical partner to the Controller in managing the District’s financial integrity and operational accountability. This position performs high-level accounting, financial reporting, budget development, forecasting, and analytical work essential to District decision-making. Responsibilities include month-end closing, general ledger management, balance sheet reconciliation, treasury transactions, capital project draw coordination, and preparation of internal financial statements and discussion/analysis reports.
The Assistant Controller maintains complex financial models, compiles statistical and operational data, supports annual audits, and acts as a liaison to District departments during the budget process.
The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with strong technical accounting skills, advanced Excel modeling capability, and a solid understanding of GAAP and GASB standards. This individual will work independently and collaboratively, respond to financial inquiries from internal and external partners, support grants and capital project accounting, and prepare professional, data-driven reports for management and the Board.
Education & Certification- Active California CPA License (required)
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- MBA preferred
- 3–5 years of progressively responsible experience in financial planning, analysis, and accounting
- Experience in public agency or fund accounting
- Airport or aviation industry experience
- Experience with construction/public works projects
- Experience with Sage 100 or similar financial systems
